White Collar "Withdrawal" Nitpicks

Season 2, Episode 1 Air Date: July 13, 2010

When you watch a program over and over, you start to notice minor continuity issues, plot oversights and other goofs. This page is not intended to be a criticism aimed toward the show or anyone who works on White Collar. They produce a great show and should be proud of their work. That's why I titled it "Nitpicks" because to nitpick means "to be overly critical or criticize minor details." If it bothers you, please don't read them. This page is intended to be for people who love watching something and going "I never noticed that..."

Who Knows When? The episode is a little vague on the how much time has passed since the end of last season and this one. Peter was given a two-week suspension in Out of the Box. However, he says that DOJ did an investigation, so it may have been longer than that. Diana says there is a meeting between Fowler and an unknown scheduled in two months, but that doesn't happen until the next episode. Also, Mozzie says Kate has been dead two months.... So, unless Peter met with DOJ right after Kate died, there is a couple of weeks missing.

Easy Cutting: When Neal is walking past the tubes, you can see the end one is already cut in the exact spot where Neal later cuts it.

No Tell Motel? Where was Neal staying for the past few days/weeks after getting out of prison? He doesn't move back into June's house until after he "robs" the bank, which occurred two months after his meeting with Peter in prison. I doubt Neal would have taken that long to think about it; nor do I believe that Peter would have told Neal he could get him released unless he was sure. Unless Peter picks him up from prison and Neal immediately robs it, he would have had to be staying somewhere. Since he already has his desk at the FBI, he must have been released from prison before that day. It seems unlikely that Neal wouldn't have checked with June before staying elsewhere....

What? Whitney must be a little deaf. She was standing right there when her boss reminded Neal that the next time he committed a crime not to get caught, yet she is totally surprised by that fact in the cafe. I suppose she could have a very short memory.

Magic Diner: During Peter and Elizabeth's dinner, a couple can be seen walking in the background behind Peter toward Elizabeth (when he is saying "It's kind of a moot point now." The camera then pans to Elizabeth and there is no couple. Then it goes back to Peter, and the couple appears again. I suppose they could have stopped, but it was a long pause.

Odd Man Out: How come the bank robber on the roof has a big walkie talkie but the guards inside have wrist walkie talkies? And don't you need to push a button on the wrist walkie talkie to use them? They just talk into them. Finally, one of the bad guys sticks his finger in his ear to "hear" the walkie talkie better. Wouldn't it make more sense to hold it close to your ear?

Bad Timing: Apparently the clocks on the security cameras are not synced. When the guard is first attacked by the robbers, the clock on camera 3 reads "17:02:33" but when they arrive at the vault Camera 15 reads "17:20:30". So it took them 18 minutes to walk across the bank. But when they leave the vault to tie up the security manager, the clock on Camera 23 reads "17:20:31" or a difference of 1 second.

Disappearing Timing: When Diana is reviewing the security footage at the FBI, the time stamp seen previously on the security footage has disappeared. (Not that it matters since it was wrong to begin with..."

Doh! Why would the bank robber leave the mask behind? Wouldn't the FBI be able to lift DNA from it?

I Go My Own Way: During the bank robbery, why didn't Peter follow Neal when he runs after the bank robbers? The bank manager was free and safe. She could have told the SWAT team what was going on. And why wasn't Peter concerned about the guard?

Gun Cleaning: When the dye packs splatter Renee Simmons, you can see that her gun is covered with it. Then Peter rushes forward and grabs the gun. But it magically cleans itself when he steps back from her.
