White Collar Characters: Major Players

The Major Players page has information on characters that have played major roles on White Collar. These are characters who have too much information to be listed on the Character List but not enough to have their own pages.

Vincent Adler

Vincent Adler

Vincent Adler was the CEO of a hedge fund company worth billions. Neal Caffrey takes a job with his company in order to obtain his account number and password (a long con that Mozzie dreamed up). But before Neal could pull the con, Adler disappeared and it was revealed that his company was just a front for a giant Ponzi scheme. Adler disappeared with over a billion dollars. (2.11)

Adler returns in search of the music box. He knew of the box's existence and purpose because his father was one of the crewmen on the sub. Adler reveals that he is the one who killed Kate when she called him on the airplane. He also was the man that manipulated Garrett Fowler and had Mozzie shot. In the end, Adler is shot and killed by Peter Burke. (2.16)

Lauren Cruz

Lauren Cruz

Agent Lauren Cruz asked to be transferred to the White Collar division from the Organized Crime Unit.(1.4) She has a doctorate from Cambridge and is fluent in five languages — quickly establishes her as a valuable member of Peter's team, as does her predilection for undercover work. (USA Site) Lauren also knows all about Neal Caffrey, having written part of her thesis at Quantico about him and got a 94 on it. (1.4). Y et despite her prior conceptions about the debonair con man, she can't help but be a little impressed by Neal. Cruz is last mentioned in Out of the Box (her phones are tapped) but is not seen after Season 1.

Garrett Fowler

Garrett Fowler

Garrett Fowler was an FBI agent who worked with the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) department. He is also the "Man with the Ring" that was holding Kate for most of Season 1. (1.14) His files were sealed when he joined the OPR. (1.7)

Fowler masterminded "Operation Mentor." (1.7) Operation Mentor was a plan to have Neal Caffrey moved to the OPR department and have him and Kate be listed as "deep undercover" agents. Essentially, it was a way for Kate and Neal to disappear legally in exchange for Neal stealing the music box. (1.14) After Kate is killed in the plane explosion, Fowler resigned. (2.8) He hides out using the alias Aaron Burgis. (2.9)

Fowler's wife was killed during a robbery a few years earlier under suspicious circumstances when Fowler was working in the violent crimes division. Fowler took a year off when he got a call from an anonymous voice that identified his wife's killer. Fowler tracked down the killer and killed him. A few days later, he received a package in the mail with a tape of him committing the murder. The mysterious voice called Fowler and told him the tape would disappear if he gave him the music box. Fowler had no idea who was pulling the strings. (2.9)

A few other things we know about Fowler include:

Matthew Keller

Matthew Keller

Matthew Keller has been linked to arms smuggling and stolen antiquities by Interpol. He is also a longtime rival of Neal Caffrey's. Neal and Keller met at the Grand Casino and worked the world backgammon finals in Monaco. They made a bet about who could forge a bottle of Château Du Munn wine given to Ben Franklin. (1.12)

In Bottlenecked, Keller returns to win the bet. He stole antique cork duck decoys, wax sealed supply list, and French soil samples from the American Museum of Natural History. He framed Manuel Campos for the theft and then killed him. In reality, Keller stole the real Franklin bottle and put it up for auction. Peter postpones the sale by starting a formal investigation and Keller is arrested for murder. Keller needed the money from the sale to pay the Russian mob. Keller stole Krugerrands from a Stockholm airport robbery by driving up to a flight and leaving fake bombs on the runway. The heist was bankrolled with Russian mob money, but Keller ran off and didn't give the Russians their percentage. (1.12)

Keller pled down to manslaughter after Neal and Peter brought him in for murder. He was sentenced to 20 years at Barksdale Maximum Security Prison. He claims to have information that Jason Lang is forging U.S. passports. (2.14)

Keller and Lang worked together on the Bellmont bond forgeries three years ago. It went south and Keller took two bullets from Lang's gun. That destroyed their partnership. Keller owes the Russian mob $2.5 million dollars. Early in his career, Keller pulled a 3-man job with Neal. While they're walking away from the site, the third man says he thinks he left his passport behind. While he's checking his pockets, Keller put a bullet in his is head. The guy's passport was in his back pocket the whole time. (2.14)

Neal and Keller also played a game of chess that they never finished. They were also rivals for Kate's affections. Kate and Keller may have some type of romantic past. It is suggested that Neal took her away from Keller or that Keller tried to take her away from Neal. (1.12)
